Full Cutoff Lighting

Light Pollution

Light pollution is excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive artificial (usually outdoor) light. Too much light pollution has consequences: it washes out starlight in the night sky, interferes with astronomical research, disrupts ecosystems, has adverse health effects and wastes energy. Components of light pollution include:

  • Glare – excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort
  • Skyglow – brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas
  • Light trespass – light falling where it is not intended or needed
  • Clutter – bright, confusing and excessive groupings of light sources

Solution

As cities grow and developments flourish, more and more exterior lighting quickly follows. This light, and the electricity used to create it, can be wasted by spilling it into the night sky unless something is done to prevent it. Brownlee’s “full cutoff” offering is designed to direct the light downward and outward, rather than upwards towards the sky.
